We are pleased to announce that this year we will be supporting CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) as our Charity of the Year.

CRY was founded in 1995 to provide support and information on cardiac risk in young people. CRY operates cardiac screening programmes, funds cardiac research, provides a support network to young people who have been diagnosed with cardiac conditions and also a bereavement support service to families who have suffered a loss of someone young with a cardiac condition.

Every year our employees are given the opportunity to nominate a “Charity of the Year” and CRY was a popular choice. We, like many others, were deeply touched by the stories on the CRY website, provided by people touched by sudden arrhythmic death. Tragically we have employees who have recently been affected by Sudden Adult Death and this, in addition to the testimonials provided by CRY, prompted us to choose this very deserving charity. We challenge anyone to read these stories and remain dry-eyed! Click here to read the truly touching accounts

We are keen to raise as much money as we possibly can and already this year have raised over £1,500 through merchandise sales and hotel events alone; we have a compiled a calendar of dedicated charity events and are keen to add further events throughout the year.

Events already in the calendar include; an Interactive Quiz Night, Family Fun Day, Clairvoyance Evening (back by popular demand!) and Craft Fayre, in addition to us participating in CRY events such as the London Bridges walk, Run to the Beat half marathon and Bristol 10km run. You can access our Charity Events calendar by clicking the link on the right.

In addition to this we hope to assist in raising awareness of the charity and the hard work that they do; if you follow us on Twitter you may have seen that we have already re-tweeted the petition urging the government to review the current policy on cardiac screening and also, we have made it easy for you to access the CRY website through a variety of links here, on our website.

Our Fundraising Aim:

The demand for screening with CRY has increased by 50% in the last year; they tested over 12,000 fit and healthy young people between the age of 14 and 35 in 2012. CRY urgently requires more cardiac machinery to respond to the increase in demand, in particular an additional ultrasound (echo) machine. Four Pillars are supporting CRY by contributing towards the purchase of a Vivid i. This is a high-performance, battery-operated, ultra-portable diagnostic Ultrasound system that provides exceptional image quality.

We are proud to say that we have a dedicated and selfless charity committee who devote much personal time and efforts into fundraising, all of whom are ready and raring to make 2013 a record breaking year for fundraising on behalf of CRY at Four Pillars Hotels.

We have various activities planned throughout the year, details of which can be found via the link below.
