Help for Heroes Presentation

2011 was a truly successful year for us in our fundraising for Help for Heroes and at the beginning of 2012 we were pleased to hand over a cheque for a total of £10,752.40.

Monies were raised from various events held at the hotels including quiz nights, a family fun day, a nearly new clothes sales, cake sales and some of the male team members succumbing to a little bit of waxing! In addition to this Help for Heroes wristbands and lapel pins were sold from the reception desks in each of the hotels and at each hotel event Help for Heroes merchandise was being sold.

The cheque was handed over to David Smith who is a local co-ordinator for Help for Heroes and this was done at the Oxford Witney Four Pillars Hotel by some of the Charity Committee.

Following on from this success, Four Pillars Hotels are pleased to launch the Charities of the Year for 2012 which are Vale House in Oxford and the Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital. The charities that the group support are chosen by the staff in the hotels and the decision this year to support two local charities meant that in addition to raising funds for these very worthy causes, we are also able to offer additional practical help and support in many different ways.

Vale House is a residential home in Sandford on Thames close to the Oxford Thames Four Pillars Hotel. The home cares for people suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and gives them a home where that combines relief, care, comfort and commitment to all its residents.

Vale House first opened in 1990 as a 20-bed nursing home, providing specialist care to the end of their lives for men and women who suffer from dementia in its severest form. Twenty years on, the original Vale House was in both in need of being updated and also expanded as more and more people are diagnosed with dementia each year. The newly built Vale House offers a purpose-built specialist care home for 40 residents and in addition to the carefully planned en-suite bedrooms, there are a number of day rooms and lounges which provide the residents with a variety of areas where they can listen to music, enjoy books or television or even have family members over to celebrate special occasions.

The Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital was an obvious choice for the teams at the Cotswold Water Park and Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotels, as the hospital serves the whole of the South West of England and as so many of our team are both local and have young families the decision was virtually unanimous.

The hospital comes under the Above & Beyond banner which is the charity which raises funds for all nine of the Bristol hospitals’, however it was the children’s hospital that the team wanted to give their support to. The Children’s Hospital offers a range of specialist services including; cardiology and oncology; specialist treatment for a range of complex and rare conditions and a specialist adolescent service which catering specifically for the group of people that can often be lost between childhood and adulthood. The hospital treats over 60,000 children every year and each one of them is as important to the staff as the next.
