Our 2012 Fund Raising Events so far
Charity Quiz Night
Sunday 29th April, Oxford Witney Four Pillars Hotel
The first big fundraising event for the calendar year was held on Sunday 29th April at the Oxford Witney Four Pillars Hotel. With over 90 people gathered in the room, teams pitted themselves up against each other to be the winners on the night, however after rounds including; Spot the Difference, Sport, Advert Themes, Movies and Spot the Ball there could only be one winner who scored a total of 56 out of a possible 96. In addition to the fun of the quiz, a raffle was also held with one of the raffle prizes be re-auctioned off and raising even more funds on the night. A total of £658 was raised for Vale House and a successful night was had by all.
We would like to thank our sponsors on the night who were Off Limits who provided the quiz on the night and the following companies who also supplied us with raffle prizes; Fresh Direct, Classic Flowers of Witney, Thomson Plumbing & Heating.
An update from Tortworth Court Hotel on how their fundraising is going so far
1 May 2012
The hotel decided to kick start their fundraising off with a couple of ‘food related’ sales. A bake sale was held and Marcus Bradley, our Sous Chef decided that he would bake some lovely cakes that went down very well. The event was such a success with the team that we have decided that we will take part in The Bristol Bake Off on 17th September. A total of £50.00 was raised so a good start for a small event.
As we all like a little sweet treat, we decided to raffle a Thornton’s Easter Egg in the week running up to Easter, tickets were £1.00 each which were sold to both guests and staff and the lucky winner was Sarah Wilmott on Reception, we are sure she was very generous and shared it with the family, this raised a further £22.00.
Back in January, the hotel won the Hotel of the Year at our annual employee awards night, so on 16th April we celebrated by holding a ‘Games Themed’ party for all the team to celebrate winning. Every team member was given a raffle ticket on arrival and additional tickets were also sold for £1.00 each with all the games that were being played on the night being the raffle prizes. Games included table football, table tennis, air hockey and a poker game with the main prize being a Nintendo Wii, a further £68.00 was raised by team members trying to win the main prize, with the lucky winner being Marek Lengyel.
As you will see from our website, Tortworth Court has under gone a refurbishment in several areas this year including the Restaurant. A couple of returning guests asked what was happening with the cups & saucers that used to be on display in Moretons Restaurant and donated £15.00 to the charity in return for taking a couple of their favourite pieces.
As we put on our main charity page, it isn’t all just about the fundraising; Liz Heneghan HR Manager for the hotel was pleased to deliver several items to the hospital, including high-chairs, crockery and cutlery which will be used in their parent’s room. The hotel also donated some old dinner plates which are going to be used by children at the hospital who will be decorating them with ceramic plates.
