We could never have predicted what a fantastic year 2013 would be, raising money for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and we would be happy if were able to get anywhere near that amount for our chosen charities this year.
The nominations for our 2014 Charity of the Year were varied, but many votes were for Air Ambulance charities and so we chose Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance (TVCAA) and Wiltshire Air Ambulance (WAA), as they serve the areas in which all of our hotels are based.
Whilst TVCAA and WAA are separate registered charities, they are very similar due to the nature of their work;
• Both charities rely on fundraising to keep them in the air, as they do not receive any financial support from either the Government or the Lottery
• Both charities attend on average 2 to 3 missions a day, which costs around £7,000 a day!
• Both charities are on call 7 days a week, 365 days a year, between them serving Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Wiltshire
There was lots of support for these charities amongst our employee nominations, but finding out that the life-saving work of these pilots, paramedics and medical professionals is not funded, spurred us on to choose these very worthy and deserving charities.
If you would like to read more about either charity, you can do so here;
As we do every year, we will be selling Air Ambulance merchandise at the Reception desks in the hotels including pin badges, trolley coins and car stickers. We are currently putting the 2014 calendar of events together, which we are hoping will include the ever popular Quiz night and Family Fun Day, along with some new events for this year. Watch this space for further information!
Again, a massive thank you to everyone who helped support CRY in 2013 and let’s hope we have another fantastic year of fundraising for our Charities this year!
