Reduce your carbon footprint with Four Pillars Hotels
Environmental issues are now becoming key to the purchasing decisions made by businesses. Further more, it’s now becoming a requirement for businesses to show staff and customers what it is they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment – communicating their carbon footprint.Tortworth Court, Four Pillars Hotels’ magnificent four star Victorian mansion, has come up with a unique way of helping companies and organisations reduce their carbon footprint. For every large conference placed organisations are invited to plant a tree in the hotel’s beautiful arboretum of over 300 rare and protected trees, aiming to help offset the carbon emissions caused by the conference, for example travel to Tortworth Court. Each tree will be accompanied by a plaque stating the name of the supporting company.
Planting trees is one of the easiest ways to offset your carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. Trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen which is very useful for humans and other animals. Each tree planted ‘offsets’ environmental impact by ‘breathing’ in about 730kg CO2 emissions over its lifetime of 100 years. It is estimated that the average person needs to save about 7,000 kg of C02 per year. So planting just 10 trees each year is one strategy for achieving this.
General Manager of Tortworth Court, Stephen Cotton comments “Reducing your carbon footprint as a company is not just about manufacturing or transport techniques. Simple purchasing choices such as conference venues can also make a surprising difference. Here at Tortworth Court we are very proud of our arboretum and we are happy that companies are choosing to be environmentally responsible and contribute to the 300 rare and protected trees that flourish here.”
